Because they’re caused by germs, sinus infections often involve a fever. Allergies do not. While both conditions can cause headaches, sinus infections are more likely to involve facial pressure and pain, focused on your cheeks, nose, and forehead, where your sinuses are located.
Finally, allergies usually follow a pattern, with symptoms associated with specific triggers. Remove the trigger, and your symptoms should decrease. A sinus infection will continue until the germs are “conquered,” a process that usually requires antibiotics.
