Facelift Q & A

What is a facelift?

A facelift, also called rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at improving the visible signs of aging that affect the face and neck.

During a facelift, your skin is lifted and the muscles and fat underneath repositioned to improve skin sagging and smooth out the lines and wrinkles.

Am I a good candidate for a facelift?

The team at ENT Specialists determines if you’re a good candidate for a facelift during a cosmetic consultation. A facelift is an elective procedure, but the team takes many factors into consideration when deciding if it’s the best choice for you, including your:

  • Overall aesthetic goals
  • Surgical expectations
  • General health
  • Degree of sagging and wrinkles

ENT Specialists offers many anti-aging treatments, including eyelid surgery, forehead and brow lifts, skin resurfacing, and wrinkle treatment. They work closely with you to determine the best aesthetic treatment to meet your beauty goals.

When it’s determined that a facelift makes the best choice for you, the team reviews the details of your surgical plan with you.

What happens during a facelift?

The specifics of your facelift may depend on your aesthetic needs and goals. In general, your cosmetic surgeon makes an incision that starts at your temple just above and in front of your ear and continues around the lobe, circling back to the initial incision.

Your surgeon then lifts your skin and repositions underlying muscle and connective tissue and removes some fat and excess skin. Your surgeon then sutures the incisions.

Your facelift procedure may take 2-4 hours.

What can I expect after a facelift?

You can expect some pain, swelling, and bruising after your facelift. The team provides prescription pain medication and recommends you also use cold compresses to ease discomfort and reduce swelling.

The team recommends you avoid strenuous activity during your recovery, which usually takes 2-3 weeks. Your sutures are removed 5-10 days after your procedure, and most patients are able to return to work within two weeks.
